Imbros

Greek villages, Tepeköy Çınaraltı, Lake Tuz, Underwater Marine Park, the Kaşkaval Headland (Cheese Rocks), rock tombs... These are just a few of the must-see locations of Imbros, a unique place blended with Greek culture.
The most important tradition of Imbros, the westernmost point of Turkey and the place where the sun sets last, is the Virgin Mary Fair, which is held every year between August 14-16. Since the anniversary of the Dormition of the Mother of God is August 15, animals are slaughtered and cooked in boilers on the night of August 14. Food, dessert, and wine are served from the boilers placed in the village square on the morning of August 15. Those who want to visit the island during the anniversary must book their stay a month in advance. Another tradition of Imbros is the egg hunt during Easter. Eggs are decorated for Easter celebrated in spring.
If you happen to visit Imbros, do not leave the island without tasting the Greek gum mastic pudding, efibadem (cookie), and Dibek coffee.
The fact that agricultural areas are easy to manage and that neither chemical pesticides nor fertilizers have been used for many years makes the transition from existing agricultural practices to organic agriculture in Imbros easy. This area has been selected as a pilot region for ecological agriculture by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The island is also home to organic olive and vineyard cultivation and organic honey-making projects with self-sustaining irrigation systems.
One of the things that immediately catch the eye upon arriving in Imbros is the sheep and goats that roam freely. Among them, the Imbros sheep is a special species that lives only on this island, with a breeding performance and milk yield superior to other native species.

Cittaslow Imbros
